Destin Beaches Are Not Affected By Oil Spill

Chamber Spreading the Message that Destin Beaches are Open, Fishing is Great

Destin, FL, May 20 - Through social media sites and interviews with regional media outlets, the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce is spreading the news that Destin beaches are open and the fishing is great.

“There is a lot of mass hysteria in the national media,” explained Chamber President and CEO Shane Moody, CCE, IOM, to Greg Sells from Fox’s St. Louis affiliate KTVI, during an interview on the beach on Wednesday, May 19. “There is no oil. There’s no oil in the water. There’s no oil on the beach.”

Moody has also done interviews with the Palm Beach Post, the Fox affiliate in Atlanta, CNN.com, and numerous newspaper and television news agencies throughout Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana.

After hearing the Destin area discussed on Sirius 123 Sport Nation’s Rivals Radio program, Moody sent an email to the show’s hosts reiterating that the beaches and fishing in Destin are great and inviting them to do a live broadcast from here and then join him for a round of golf and fishing excursion. The email was read on the air during the May 17 show.

The Chamber is also posting photos and videos daily to its Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr sites, which are all linked from its home page at www.DestinChamber.com, and is fielding sometimes 130 or 145 calls per day, mostly from those concerned about oil in the Destin area.

The Chamber encourages those in the Destin area to spread the word to friends and family that our beaches are open and join us on Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr to post your own photos of our beautiful area.
